About

My name is Holli and I am travelling the world. For a while.

I studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Exeter in the UK and worked for almost 8 years, travelling as much as I could in my spare time. I had been to some absolutely incredible, beautiful and remote places and I decided I wanted to see more than a 4-week trip would allow.

I sold my house in the UK (ok, so I have put some things into a storage locker, but I am selling things whenever I get a chance) and since November 2017 I have been travelling with one-way tickets, mainly overland, and will be for the foreseeable.

I’ve called this blog (my first one, can’t you guess!?) The Nomad Chapter because that’s what this is for me. I haven’t got a fixed itinerary and I’m learning to love the spontaneity that my backpack and being a solo traveller allows.

I hope this blog will be a mixture of useful planning tips including what to do and what NOT to do in a place, alongside my thoughts and a rundown of what I did.

There’s a couple of things you should know about me: I LOVE food. So much. And I talk about it a lot. But I also love culture and language, photography (almost every photo will be my own), making new friends, road trips and learning new things. So hopefully this blog will be as varied as my adventures.

I volunteer for Team Rubicon UK, an incredible disaster response charity which is always ready to deploy emergency response teams to assist disaster-stricken communities across the UK and worldwide. It’s absolutely terrible to see disasters unfold around the world and I am honoured to be part of a like-minded TRibe who are able to deploy to help people on their darkest day. We volunteers are called Greyshirts and many of us are ready to be deployed anywhere in the world at almost no notice, so who knows, maybe this blog will suddenly get very exciting indeed one day. Find us on Facebook and on instagram @TeamRubiconUK

From time to time you’ll see me with my Team Rubicon hoodie on – I love telling people about this charity – if you want to hear more then get in touch with me or with the charity!

As I update this page I am laying in my tent by a lake in the heart of Estonia, more than 7 months into my trip and I am having a blast. Cheers.
